This was a difficult album for me.

After the two albums I managed to slip by a cool labels (Poiu and Ainoa Suunta respectively) were released, I sort of fell into a slump. I did make music - most of this album - in the month after them, but it didn't feel the same. I decided to slow down for a bit, watch a bunch of movies (currently sitting at 290 this year) and see when things would feel right again.

After I got back, I began working on a slew of albums as I often do. Most of them seemed way more meaningful, more interesting and just more on all different ways. Barely Formed got it's name from this feeling, in comparison this album just didn't feel compelling. Tracks 1 and 3 are basically just versions of each other, identifiable as such, there was a lot of mixing issues throughout the album, these tracks felt static and shallow, without a trajectory. No album before this has gotten this much doubt and disgust out of me, I almost archived it fully. But every time I began working on it, small pieces would find their way into place and finally, I got the album.

The "thing" is kind of hard to explain though. Much like the formalistic aspect, the core of the album is barely formed: there is no thematic throughline this time. It's about those emotions which are so rudimentary or so complex that it becomes hard to explain them. Those times when you feel like crying out of nowhere. Those times that feel like iterations of times before. Those times when something doesn't feel big but feels like it could envelope you whole. The moment where every detail comes together to make a whole, just for a second.

The final track is the most formed in this way. During the pandemic me and my partner would watch movies and shows over Discord every week and this song is about the feeling that always left me with. The tender love that's yearning for more, but still getting stronger every minute held in this remote discussion. The shared frustration, but also the wonderment that somehow we still deepened our relationship at this time. I wanted to leave off on that note, because that felt the most true, the most formed. I guess in a way, this is my Covid-19 album.
